Kichiden-ji Temple

This temple was built on the wishes of Emperor Tenji and rebuilt by Eshin Sozu (Genshin) in 987. Its principal object of worship, an Amitabha Tathagata seated statue, includes a "halo of one thousand Buddhas," and it is said to have been made by Eshin Sozu himself. A beautiful two-story pagoda of a rare type stands on the temple grounds. It is an important cultural property.
