The area in front of the approach of Horyuji Temple is called “Nanmatsu”. There stand two stone lanterns at the entrance of the approach, engraved with “offered to Prince Shotoku in 1842 by the residents of Nanmatsu”. Nanmatsu is thought to have formed a community from the late Edo period.
