Hotokezuka Tumulus

The tumulus is located on a small hill which extends further north from the hill called “Terayama” behind Horyuji temple. The excavation conducted in 1976 suggests that it is a square-shaped tumulus with about 23 meters on a side. The tumulus contains a “cave type and double-wing type” stone chamber that opens to the south. A piece of turtle-shaped ceramic coffin, a gilt-bronze Buddhist statue, earthen ware, harnesses, earing, swords, etc. were excavated.
